Satilla Riverkeeper Presents:

The A.J. Strickland “King of the River” Satilla River Fishing Tournament

Cash prizes of more than $1,000 plus other prizes will be awarded.

Entry fee is $25 per fisher for anyone age 16 and over. Youth under 16 can fish for free when accompanied by an adult.

Satilla Riverkeeper

Entry fee will include a year’s membership with Satilla Riverkeeper, a non-profit organization whose mission it is to protect, restore and educate about the Satilla River. Cash prizes will be awarded to team winners in each category, and fishing tackle and other prizes will be awarded to winners in the youth division.

Teams must consist of a minimum of two fishers per boat with a maximum of the team’s boat capacity. Kayakers must fish in pairs of a minimum of two kayaks. Canoes musts carry a minimum of two team members. Fishing from the bank is also allowed. Members of a team may weigh in any fish caught by any member of the team. Only one fish per team will be weighed for each category. There is no maximum number to a team–only that of the boat’s capacity. No one is to fish as an individual.

Fishing may begin at 6:30am (sunrise is about 6:30 that day) on May 7th anywhere on public waters of the Satilla River or its tributaries. The tournament will be held rain or shine. In the event of threatening weather, contestants are reminded to observe safety first and are responsible to determine the extent of their participation.

Entry fees and registration forms must be received no later than 5 p.m. May 6th, 2016. Late registration will be accepted 7-9am the day of the event at the weigh in location via cash only and a late registration fee of $10 will be charged.

Weigh-in may occur at any time after noon and will be held at Tindall Enterprises at 829 South West Central Ave. in Blackshear, GA 31516. Registration will be underneath the water tower.

Prizes: Total Payout of over $1000 plus prizes.

  • ‘Red Myers’ Largest Redbreast pays $125.(sponsored by John S. Myers P.C, Attorney at Law, St. Marys)
  • Largest native catfish pays $100. (Flathead catfish are not eligible.)(sponsored by Brantley Telephone Company, Nahunta)
  • Largest panfish other than a Redbreast pays $100.(sponsored by Coffee County Historical Society, Douglas)
  • Largest Largemouth Bass pays $100.(sponsored by Brantley Telephone Company, Nahunta)
  • Largest bowfin (mudfish) pays $100.(sponsored by Tindall Enterprises, Blackshear)

Largest fish is defined as the heaviest fish by weight. Youth awards sponsored by Winges Bait & Tackle/Pure Fishing. Other sponsors include Flash Foods, etc.

‘Junior Strickland’ Grand Slam Prize: will be awarded to the team with the largest fish in three of the five categories listed. Fish from all 5 categories will be considered but only the largest in any 3 can be entered in this category. Fishers present the 3 fish of their choice to be weighed. Pays $300. (sponsored by the A.J. Strickland Family)

‘Capt. Bert’s Satilla Spin’ Largest Redbreast Stringer Prize: Prize and bragging rights will be awarded to the team with the three largest redbreast total weight. Pays $300. (sponsored by Capt. Bert’s Quality Lures)

Only one fish per team will be weighed for each category except the Grand Slam and Largest Redbreast Stringer in which three total fish will be weighed.

Any entry in the Youth division must be specified as such before the fish are weighed. Youth must be with someone as a member of the team but they can then enter their catch in the youth category if they wish–and must state so at weigh-in.

RULES:

All state and federal laws and regulations will be observed. Any infraction of these laws and regulations may result in disqualification. It is the responsibility of the entrant to be familiar with these laws and regulations.

Trotlines, jugs, and bush hooks are NOT allowed during the tournament. Fishing poles are the only gear allowed during the tournament.

Any fish weighed in for Youth categories must be designated as such prior to weigh-in.

Weigh-in will be available beginning at 12:00 noon the day of the event. In order to be eligible for prizes an entrant must be in the weigh-in line by 4 p.m. May 7, 2016. If you have not weighed in or are not in the weigh-in line at 4 p.m., no catches will be eligible for prizes.

Catch and release is encouraged by the Satilla Riverkeeper. A live fish tank will be provided at weigh-in for live catches to be returned to the river.

The tournament committee will determine disqualifications or disputes, and the decision of the committee is final. Winners will be determined and payouts and prizes will be awarded at the end of the tournament. Any protest must be in writing and must be lodged with the tournament committee within 30 minutes of weigh-in.

This is a family event. Any contestant suspected of consuming alcohol during the fishing event and during weigh-in may be disqualified.

The Satilla Riverkeeper is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. All contributions are tax deductible. Sponsorships are available.
